My Heart Broke When I Found My Beloved Lifeless

My Heart Broke When I Found My Beloved Lifeless

Every morning, my routine is set in stone. Working the night shift means I get to bed late, and I've always slept in the spare room. Not out of distance, but so my fiancée, Priya, could have the main bedroom to herself, watch her serials, or do her intricate embroidery without me disturbing her sleep. It was our little arrangement, a quiet gesture of love, a testament to how much I cherished her peace.

Around 8:55 AM, I’d wake up, head to the bathroom, and invariably pass by our room. It was my habit, my small morning ritual, to gently touch her foot or playfully tickle her as I went by. She’d usually stir, maybe murmur something, or give a sleepy kick. It was our silent morning greeting.

Today, she was lying face down, sideways across the bed. I've seen her sleep like that many times after a particularly busy day, lost in her dreams. I smiled faintly, reaching out, my fingers brushing against her foot, expecting the familiar warmth and a slight movement.

But there was nothing. No warmth, no movement, just an unsettling stillness. My smile vanished. My heart began to pound. "Priya?" I whispered, then louder, "Priya!" No response. A cold dread crept up my spine. I walked around to her head, my hands trembling as I reached to shake her. Nothing. Her skin felt strangely cool.

Panic flared, a desperate fire in my chest. I remember leaping onto the bed, urging myself to turn her over, to see her face, to coax a breath from her. But even before I fully saw her, a crushing certainty enveloped me. That lifeless stillness, that lack of any reaction – it spoke a truth my mind refused to accept. My world, our dreams, everything we had planned… it was all gone in an instant.
